The "pops with cops" event will take place Thursday morning and afternoon.

WAYLAND, MA — On Thursday, the Wayland Town Beach will offer a new way to cool off in summer.

Wayland police will visit the beach to host a "pops with cops" event, where local officers will hand out free ice cream. The slogan for the event is, "to protect and serve ice cream."

The town beach is in the midst of its summer season, with full lifeguard coverage and a snack bar. The beach is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. for swimming and boat rentals, although reduced lifeguard coverage will begin on Aug. 14.
