Dear editor:
In towns like ours, the quality and integrity of local community leaders dramatically shapes our quality of life. Wayland is fortunate that one of our most dynamic and accomplished civic leaders is now seeking a position on the School Committee. I urge all Wayland residents who care about the quality of our schools and the efficient use of town resources to support Jeanne Downs for the School Committee.

Many readers know Jeanne for her longstanding commitment to education in Wayland and to our town’s youth. Jeanne currently serves as President of the Wayland High School Parent Organization, where she leads efforts to strengthen the school experience for our children. She came to this leadership role through years of running the Middle School PTO (as President, Vice President and Treasurer) and previously serving as Vice President of an elementary school PTO. As a result of her service at all levels of the Wayland education system, Jeanne is extraordinarily well versed in the issues and has built strong relationships with parents, teachers and administrators.
Jeanne has also been a driving force behind the Wayland Warriors swim team for almost a decade. Coach Jeanne has helped sustain a rigorous yet supportive team environment that promotes children’s physical and emotional development, while indirectly strengthening the Wayland High School swim program. Jeanne’s vision and hard work also contributed to the building of new town pool as a resource that could serve not just our children but the wider Wayland community.

With four of her children having attended Wayland schools, Jeanne has been personally involved in many aspects of our town’s school system. She has boundless energy, a positive spirit, and she balances a strong commitment to Wayland youth with responsible stewardship of town resources. I urge all residents to support her in the upcoming election.
Sincerely,
Sarah Sewall
