To the editor:

I am thrilled to hear that Tony Boschetto has decided to run for the vacant seat on the Wayland Board of Selectmen. Tony has been a Wayland resident for more than 18 years and has been an active contributor to our Wayland community and our proud Wayland school system. Tony doesn’t just speak the words, he follows his words with action: Tony was a co-petitioner for the 2011 town meeting article which resulted in the return of $4 million in surplus tax dollars with no reduction in town services. In 2012 Tony was appointed to the town Audit Committee where he kept a watchful eye over our tax dollars and internal financial processes. Tony offers 25 years of very strong financial, business and professional background.

While serving as president of the Wayland Baseball and Softball Association Tony worked diligently to better our town's athletic fields and programs; developed a Community Service Program that encouraged Wayland High School students to teach younger Wayland children the basic rules of athletic events; and developed a program to teach middle and high school students to be umpires for hire for area softball and baseball games.

In 2011 Tony was awarded the MetroWest Daily News “Person of Distinction Award” for his tax saving measures for all Wayland residents, and in 2012 Tony was a recipient of the Lydia Maria Child Award for “Outstanding Public Service.”

Tony’s accounting experience is desperately needed as the town reorganizes after the Abrahams Group found what some would consider "serious" flaws in bookkeeping procedures. As a current member of the Board of Selectmen I welcome Tony’s financial experience and that extra set of eyes to work with our new finance director and to keep a watchful eye on Wayland’s financial picture.

It is imperative that the board have someone with Tony's level of expertise in finance and business at this time and I ask all concerned Wayland residents who had the confidence in me and voted to elect me as selectman, to get out and vote for Tony for selectman.

Please vote on this important election on April 2, and elect Tony Boschetto to the Board of Selectmen.
