To the Editor:

I am writing to recommend Gordon Cliff for Selectman. Gordon and his family have been residents for six years, and he has served as a member our new Audit Committee. In that capacity he has used his experience as a finance expert in the practice of a large international consulting firm.

Gordon has all the qualifications needed to perform the duties required of a selectman. Moreover, it is his campaign slogan of “Keep Wayland Strong” that differentiates him as the best proponent for continued growth in our town.

As we all know, our town has had significant achievements over the past years.  We have had new construction such as the new high school and Town Center.  We have built and plan to build new affordable housing. Our schools are second to none both in the state and nationally. We have reduced the tax rate and have maintained our Aaa bond rating. We continue to have extremely able police, fire and advanced life support capabilities. And lastly we have maintained our semi-rural character while achieving top class amenities such as our upcoming 375th anniversary celebration, town pool and beach, our numerous playing fields, and our many restaurants and retail options.

Gordon understands how important it is to keep the momentum going.

Although we have reduced the tax rate, more efficiencies can be found. While everyone would like as low a tax rate as possible, this cannot always be done without sacrificing many of the things Wayland holds dear. Gordon would strike the right balance between these competing objectives.

Please join me in voting for Gordon on election day. He is the best choice for keeping Wayland strong and vibrant.

John Bladon
