TO THE EDITOR:

It has been my privilege to know and work with Jeanne Downs for eight years.  I enthusiastically endorse her for the Wayland School Committee.

I admire her innate ability to manage many tasks at once, and quickly and calmly solve any problem or issue put before her. I have witnessed these talents time after time as Jeanne has led, coached and managed 160 of Wayland's children through swim practices and meets annually. Jeanne makes each child feel special and successful regardless of their swimming level. I have no doubt that Jeanne’s work ethics, talents and dedication will benefit the School Committee. She will strive to ensure that every Wayland student has the opportunity to excel within our school system.

Jeanne has volunteered countless hours in leadership roles at Claypit Hill Elementary School, Wayland Middle School and Wayland High School. Her many years of service in the school system has given her first-hand knowledge of our district’s budgets, administrative processes and of the district’s goals and initiatives. Jeanne has proven her ability to work collaboratively and productively within our schools.

Lastly, but of equal importance, Jeanne’s educational and professional background in finance makes her the perfect candidate for our School Committee.  She received her degree in economics from one of this nation’s  best programs. Her experience as an internal auditor of a national bank and Head of Disaster Recovery/Business Resumption at Coopers & Lybrand gives her the necessary qualifications to understand, analyze and formulate our school district’s budget.

I hope you will join me in electing Jeanne Downs to the School Committee on Tuesday, April 2, as she is certainly the right person for the job.
