I write in enthusiastic support of the candidacies of Gordon Cliff for Wayland Board of Selectmen and Jeanne Downs for Wayland School Committee. Gordon Cliff brings professional financial experience, a calm and steady demeanor, an understanding of the Wayland community, and the motivation to nurture Wayland’s strengths. He defines these strengths just as I would – premier schools and a strong commitment to public safety and health, open spaces, conservation, recreation, senior services, and affordable housing.
Jeanne Downs brings years of experience volunteering for the Wayland community and schools. She has a track record of leadership of the Community Pool and PTOs at all levels. Jeanne, a trusted and admired Wayland citizen, will lead the schools in the direction I support – high quality programs and efficient, respectful management.

Gordon Cliff and Jeanne Downs are terrific examples of community minded-people who appreciate Wayland’s high quality services provided by hard working, dedicated employees and volunteers. Gordon and Jeanne will use their insight and experience to increase efficiencies, yet not sacrifice programs that make Wayland such a desirable place to live.
Wayland has made significant investments – both publicly and privately funded - in the past decade. These investments (Wayland High School and the Town Center) required the support of a diligent and engaged Board of Selectmen and School Committee. The upcoming election is critical for insuring that Wayland citizens reap the benefits of these hard-won investments. For example, just because we built a brand new high school does not guarantee that the educational program will be protected. Gordon Cliff and Jeanne Downs will work to make sure that it is.
