Selectmen Preview: Warrant Hearing, Votes on Warrants and 375th Celebration Permitting

The Wayland Board of Selectmen will meet tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Wayland Town Building.

Editor's Note: This morning, Patch learned from Wayland Fire Chief Vinnie Smith that the "fireworks" approval listed in the agenda and in the preview below is actually a request from the 375th Committee to the BOS to authorize Smith to issue a permit for a ceremonial bonfire, not fireworks. We've left the below preview unchanged, but wanted to note the discrepancy here.

The preview below was submitted by Town Administrator Fred Turkington.

The Board of Selectmen will meet on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 in Wayland Town Building, beginning at 6:30 p.m. After Chairman John Bladon reviews the meeting agenda for the viewing public and makes any announcements, selectmen will consider the consent calendar, review correspondence and hear public comment.

Next, the board will consider a request from the 375th Anniversary Commemoration Committee for a special permit to allow a ceremonial fireworks display on June 15 to kick off the year-long celebration.

At 7 p.m., the selectmen will conduct the Annual Town Meeting Warrant Hearing. Citizens are invited to ask questions that will allow officials to prepare additional information in advance of town meeting that will inform the vote on articles.

The board will also continue voting their recommendations to citizens, considering Articles 15, 16, 17, 19 and 20. In all, the board will vote have voted on 17 of the 24 articles at meetings held on March 20 and 27. The remaining seven articles will be considered at a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. just prior to the opening session of Annual Town Meeting on Thursday, April 4. Selectmen will consider additional information related to Articles 14 and 18 to help form their positions that will be considered on these items on April 4.

Later, selectmen will offer their reports and concerns. Before adjourning, the board will meet in executive session to consider potential litigation.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Selectmen's Meeting Room, moves to the Large Hearing Room at 7 p.m. for the Warrant Hearing, and wraps up in the Selectmen's Meeting Room.
