Video: Black Bear In Wayland Snacks On Beehives, Climbs Tree
The bear sighting in Wayland was one of several in the area over the weekend.

WAYLAND, MA — A black bear made an appearance in Wayland on Saturday, one of several sightings of bears in the area over the weekend.
Wayland resident Eddie Bumstead captured photos and video of the bear in a tree near his French Avenue home on Saturday night. The bear snacked on beehives in the neighborhood and knocked over trash cans before leaving, Bumstead said.
Wayland police Chief Ed Burman said police responded to a bear call that night, but the creature was gone by the time officers arrived.

Experts say black bears, in most cases, will try to avoid contact with humans. They often scurry into trees as an avoidance measure.
The established bear range in Massachusetts goes about as far east as the I-290 belt and as far north as Dracut. However, the extended black bear range — where bears travel for food, but don't stick around — includes most communities between Route 128 and I-495 north of the Mass Pike.
