WAYLAND, MA — Wayland will hold a special Town Meeting in early December to vote on a single item related to the Wayland Teachers Association union.

The Wayland Select Board on Oct. 25 held a special afternoon meeting with one main item on the agenda: to vote to open a special Town Meeting warrant for only seven days after a group of citizens petitioned for it.

The select board did vote to open the warrant and set a special meeting on Dec. 6. The town posted a notice to the wider public on Oct. 27 that warrant was open. The select board closed the warrant on Nov. 1 with only a single article submitted:

"To see if the town will appropriate from available funds the money necessary to satisfy the contract obligations for members of the Wayland Teachers for the 2023-2025 contract. Or take any other action relative thereto."

The Wayland Finance Committee is set to meet Wednesday about the article, and the agenda says it's about a Wayland Teachers Association settlement transfer.

The Dec. 6 special Town Meeting will begin at 6:45 p.m. at Wayland High School. The Town Meeting Electronic Voting Implementation Subcommittee (ELVIS) is asking anyone planing to attend to answer this survey to gauge attendance. The special Town Meeting won't use electronic voting following a 3-2 vote this week.

Correction: A previous version of this story gave the wrong day for the Finance Committee meeting, and incorrectly stated the number of voters who signed the special Town Meeting petition.
