Wayland Whole Foods Project: Zoning Board To Hear Permit Request
Developer Mill Creek Residential wants permission to build a 172-unit residential complex on the Boston Post Road site.

WAYLAND, MA — A key Wayland zoning board on Tuesday will begin a discussion on a proposal to redevelop the former Whole Foods plaza along the Boston Post Road.
The Zoning Board of Appeals is set to discuss the Mill Creek Residential proposal at the Tuesday meeting. The developer wants to build a 172-unit residential development at the former supermarket plaza between Boston Post Road and Pelham Island Road. The property is in an area zoned for business, and so the developer needs permission from the ZBA for a residential use of the property.
Mill Creek Residential is planning to set aside 43 units as affordable for families earning less than 80 percent of the area median income.

Plans for the mostly vacant plaza were revealed to the public in March, and Wayland held a forum on the project on March 20. But Tuesday's meeting will be the first time the ZBA has taken up the application since then. The board spent the last several meetings in May, June and July discussing the proposal to build a 60-unit senior living complex at 124 Cochituate Road on property owned by St. Ann's.
The Wayland Whole Foods closed in 2017 and moved farther down the Boston Post Road to Sudbury. The grocery store portion of the plaza has been vacant ever since.
