Shoplifting, Road Rage, And More: Wellesley Police Log

The following is from the Wellesley Police Log. Arrests and charges mentioned don't imply conviction.

July 30

11:10 a.m. - Officer J. Popovski spoke with a woman from a business on Central Street about a past shoplifting incident. The woman stated that a store employee noticed a few items missing the previous day after a customer had left the store and after reviewing the video surveillance it was learned that the shoplifting occurred between 3:29 and 3:33 p.m. There were three pieces of jewelry taken valued at $826. The suspect was described as a woman with short dark colored hair in her 50s. Officer Popovski is investigating.

A Wellesley Park and Tree Department employee reported that while trash barrels were emptied from the Sprague Playing Fields during the previous week, one of the barrels contained household trash and a piece of mail was located that identified an individual from Oak Street. Officer Gerard spoke with the homeowner who indicated that they had been residing there for a few months and were unaware it was against the town by-laws to dispose of household trash in the trash receptacles maintained by the town and that he would not do so in the future.

4:56 p.m. - Officer Cunningham spoke with a woman at the police station regarding a past road rage incident. The woman stated that at 1 p.m. she was traveling east on Washington Street and she stopped at the intersection of Kingsbury Street when the light turned yellow and a man in a Jeep abruptly stopped behind her and the operator began showing her his middle fingers. She stated after the light turned green she proceeded down Washington Street and the operator became frustrated with her when she would let other vehicles enter the lane of travel and he threw a rock at her vehicle. Officer Cunningham was able to identify the operator of the Jeep and spoke with him. He stated that thewoman kept stopping abruptly and looking in her rear view mirror and laughing. He denied throwing anything at her car.

6:30 p.m. - Officer DeBernardi was on patrol on Worcester Street near Route 16 when he observed a Nissan sedan and queried the vehicle’s registration to determine its status. The query showed that the registered owner’s license was revoked. Officer DeBernardi stopped the vehicle on Worcester Street near Ottoway Circle and spoke with the operator and owner, 36-year-old Arnold Joseph of Westborough. Officer DeBernardi asked Joseph if he was aware of why he was being stopped and he indicated he was and knew his license was revoked. He was taken into custody, charged with operating with a suspended license, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and later released on personal recognizance.

August 1

10:26 a.m. - Officer Kennan was dispatched to a business on Washington Street to speak with a reporting party about a piece of rental equipment that had been rented and was not returned. The incident is under investigation.

3:27 p.m. - Officer Cunningham was dispatched to a bank on Washington Street for a report of two men who had presented fraudulent checks on July 30. Both men presented checks from the same company in excess of $1,800. A bank employee attempted to contact the company listed on the check prior to cashing them, but was unable to make contact. They later learned that the same male parties presented fraudulent checks at Newton branch of the bank on July 30 and one of the two men was arrested. Both men provided photo identification when cashing the checks. Officer Cunningham is summonsing both men to Dedham District Court for larceny Over $1,200, forgery of a check and uttering a false check.
