Stolen American Flag, Injured Deer: Wellesley Police Log

The following is from the Wellesley Police Log. Arrests and charges mentioned don't imply conviction.

August 30

6:43 p.m. - Officer Griffin was on patrol on Grove Street when he observed a Honda coupe that began speeding after passing his location. After Officer Griffin activated his blue lights at which point the vehicle made an abrupt turn onto Kenilworth Road and began speeding. The vehicle then turned on to Kenilworth Circle and was stopped by Officer Griffin. The operator, 33-year-old Bryan Brooks of Acton, provided Officer Griffin with his information and stated that he did not have a license. A query of his information revealed there were two active warrants for his arrest issued by Dedham District Court and Concord District Court. Additionally, his license was suspended. Officer Griffin placed Brooks under arrest and charged him with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and speeding, in addition to the active warrants. He was transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and later bailed.

8:20 a.m. - Officer Rosenberg spoke with a man at the police station who stated that an American Flag that was hanging on the doorway to his residence was stolen on August 29. There are no suspects.

8:16 a.m. - Officer Cunningham was dispatched to Elmwood Road for a report of an injured deer. Officer Cunningham noticed that the deer’s rear leg was broken and it was unable to stand. The deer was euthanized and later removed by the Department of Public Works.

3:12 p.m. - Officer J. Popovski spoke with a woman who stated that her vehicle was parked in her driveway overnight and was broken into. She stated the vehicle was unlocked and her purse was taken. Her purse contained a wallet with credit cards and other personal documents. She was advised to cancel the credit cards, monitor her credit and place a fraud alert with one of the credit reporting bureaus. There are no suspects.

6:06 p.m. - Officer D. Popovski was on patrol on Washington Street when he observed a man at the Wellesley Hills Train station lying on the ground. Officer Popovski was concerned that the man was in need of medical attention. He approached the man and detected a moderate odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath and his body. When the man stood up, he was unsteady on his feet and unwilling to make arrangements for someone to pick him up. He was taken into protective custody and transported to the police station. He eventually provided officers with contact information for a responsible individual to assume responsibility for him.
