Wellesley PD Asks Community to Help Meet Toys for Tots Shortfall

The deadline to donate gifts has been extended.

Higher than typical demand and lower than typical donations have the U.S. Marine Corps asking for generous folks to keep pitching in to make Toys for Tots a success this year.

According to an announcement on the Wellesley Police Department site, the higher than expected demand prompted the U.S. Marine Corps to extend the deadline to drop off new, unwrapped toys and games for the program. That means you now have until Friday, Dec. 19 to make a child’s holiday especially bright, and Wellesley Police Chief Terry Cunnigham has opened the police station lobby as a local drop-off point in order to help meet the demand for additional donations.

Earlier this season, Wellesley police had been collected toys to help local families, but toys donated after Dec. 12, will now be given to the Toys for Tots program as “the enormous generosity of the Wellesley community” helped the department meet its local needs.
