Lizzi Marriott Fundraiser Helps Carry on Student's Spirit

More than 700 local residents came to support the "Intrepid Explorer Fund" in honor of Westborough's Lizzi Marriott.

Organizers of a fundraiser to benefit the "Lizzi Marriot Intrepid Explorer Fund" hoped to raise more than $50,000 during the Saturday night event.

Bob Marriot's daughter Lizzi was studying marine sciences at UNH when she was murdered on Oct. 9. A scholarship in her name will benefit local students studying marine biology.

"She expressed a desire in becoming a prominent figure in exploring the world's oceans," Marriot said. "We took that and made it a central point of the fund itself."
