According to the announcement, MassDOT is hosting these public meeting and coordinating with key stakeholders in order to receive input on the project’s purpose and need. Future activities will also include selecting a preferred alternative design for the interchange, completing design work, and environmental analysis and permitting, with community input and public outreach occurring throughout these phases.
Previous work has included completing a one-year study on potential changes to the interchange as well as environmental notifications, coordination with state, local, and federal stakeholders, ground surveying, and traffic data collection, said the press release.
The purpose of discussions is to achieve the goal of providing a safer and more efficient crossroads of the Interstate Highways I-495 and I-90 (the Massachusetts Turnpike) which is a high volume area for motor vehicles and is used by nearly half of freight truck traffic entering eastern Massachusetts.
