Westborough Police, Selectman, Joins Open Mosque Day

Police joined other departments and officials in "open mosque day" in Worcester.

WESTBOROUGH, MA—Westborough police, along with Selectman Bruce Tretter and members of the Cultural Diversity Committee, attended two important events this past Sunday in Worcester.

According to Chief Jeffrey Lourie, the department was joined by other police and elected officials, along with the public to support the “Annual Massachusetts Open Mosque Day Open Minds, Open Hearts." Tours were provided along with presentations on Islam followed by an extremely detailed question and answer program, said Lourie in his regular "Chief's Column."

"The Islamic Society of Greater Worcester and Worcester Islamic Center were gracious and inviting hosts and WPD hopes you will consider attending the event next year," he wrote. "By listening and communicating together, understanding, acceptance and tolerance can/will take hold. WPD looks forward to working with our community to ensure we receive the education and working partnerships necessary to ensure we collaboratively meet the needs of Westborough and our Commonwealth."
