Garden Hose Not Enough For South Chelmsford Road Fire

Excerpts from the Westford Fire Department log for the week of April 29 to May 6, 2013

 

Tuesday, April 30, 12:30 p.m. - An electrical wire was knocked down by a passing truck on Dunstable Road near the Tyngsboro border, causing a brush fire.

National Grid shut off the electrical wire and then the fire was extinguished, after it consumed an area approximately 20' by 20'

Tuesday, April 30, 2:58 p.m. - One home owner was attempting to extinguish a structure fire on South Chelmsford Road with a garden hose when fire trucks arrived.

The fire originated from some bark mulch and spread to the home owner's porch, causing damage to the side of the home and the porch.

Tuesday, April 30, 5:02 p.m. - First responders were dispatched to 495 Northbound just before Exit 32 for reports of a fuel leak. No fuel leak was found, only a motor vehicle that had run out of fuel.

Sunday, May 5, 2:46 p.m. - Three units were dispatched to Buckboard Drive for a 3,000 square foot brush fire in some nearby woods.

The fire was extinguished and crews returned later to check for further flareups from the earlier fire.
