Will There Be Another Chapter to the Article 30 Debate?
While the topic was taken off the agenda for Town Meeting, the issue still remains a topic of discussion elsewhere in the Commonwealth. Will the issue return to Westford?
The 2013 Annual Town Meeting has come and passed here in Westford without any mention of the once proposed warrant article to ban certain types of firearms that was dismissed in late February.
However, elsewhere in the state the debate over gun control and the Second Amendment continues.

Earlier this month, WBUR reported that the number of students in firearms training courses is rising, and recently the Newburyport Daily News reported that a Salisbury man and a Natick man have filed a lawsuit against the town of Natick over a state law prohibiting anyone with a marijuana conviction from obtaining a firearm permit, with the men citing the law violates their Second Amendment rights.
And last week, State Representative David Linsky (D-Natick) talked with crowds in Holliston and Foxborough on a piece of legislation he filed to further regulate the licensing, sale and possession of firearms and increase the tax on the sale of firearms and ammunition (pictured).

At the Holliston event in particular, Westford resident Cori Ryan voiced concerns over language in the bill that may cause people looking for gun permits to forego mental health treatment.
"I took the opportunity to ask him a specific question about his bill and I think he will take it into consideration while reviewing the bill," said Ryan. "My worry is that people who need firearms for defense won't seek mental health for something like an eating disorder because they are scared they might be committed and will therefore be prevented from getting a gun."
It's only a few months until Fall Town Meeting. By then, will the debate on gun issues have died down? Will another warrant article be introduced similiar to Article 30? What about Linsky's legislation?
