$2000 Raised for One Fund Boston by Ohrenberger School by 10:30 A.M.!

The Ohrenberger and Beethoven K-8 schools are holding a no uniform day today in exchange for a donation to the One Fund Boston.

The Ohrenberger School community quickly collected $2,000 for One Fund Boston on Wednesday morning from students donating money in exchange for not wearing a uniform.

“As a school we try to promote community awareness whenever possible with the kids. This is a great opportunity to do that while raising money for an important cause. We (chose) the One Fund Boston since the mayor and governor were promoting that to raise money for victims." said John Chojnowski, vice principal of the Ohrenberger and Beethoven schools. The Beethoven School is also participating, but early totals were still being calculated.

"Besides being the right thing to do, we're really committed to showing the kids the importance of being socially-responsible and a good community member," said Naomi Krakow, principal for both schools.

The schools usually have a uniform policy, but do have non-uniform days as fundraisers, such as previous fundraisers to  and victims of the Worcester tornado.

Chojnowski said counselors are available to speak with students to talk about the events of the past two weeks. He added that with the Ohrenberger School being from grades 3 to 8, the level of discussion ranges due to the maturity of ages.

"On Monday we had a moment of silence on announcements, we just announced to the kids in general terms about the tragedies that took place... The rest is an as-it-came-up basis. Teachers are having individual conversations with kids, and counselors are meeting with kids," he added.

An end of the day total between the two schools will be announced on Patch, so stay tuned.

"This is a perfect opportunity to show the spirit of Boston pride and raise money for a great cause," said Chojnowski.
