Three West Roxbury residents were arrested Tuesday for protesting Spectra Energy’s construction of a natural gas pipeline in the neighborhood, police said.
The protestors were taken into custody Tuesday morning by Boston Police officers. They were attempting to block construction of the pipeline on Washington Street, which is part of a 37-mile extension of the Algonquin Gas Transmission pipeline.

Several protestors turned out to rally against the work on a nearby sidewalk. The three who were arrested actually entered the worksite, according to police.
West Roxbury residents are afraid a gas leak could leave the community in great danger. Many are also concerned that construction is planned outside of an active blasting quarry on Grove Street. Hundreds of families and three schools are centered in the area.

Local residents have taken part in many protests in an effort to drive construction crews out of town.
Boston Mayor Marty Walsh lobbied to tie up the pipeline company in court, but a federal judge ruled in favor of the work back in September.
It’s unclear if the protestors will face charges, according to Boston Police.
