Firearms Seized in Boston 'Repurposed' as Sewer Covers
The guns are crushed, melted down, recycled and repurposed after being taken off the streets of Boston.

Ever wonder what the Boston Police Department does with the hundreds of guns they seize from the city’s streets? Simply put, they are destroyed and reborn as manhole covers.
Each and every day, illegal guns are taken off the streets of Boston in an ongoing effort to keep the city safe. According to police officials, those guns are then sent to a steel plant in Everett. They are then ”crushed, melted down, recycled and repurposed,” according to the department

The weapons are recast in the shape and form of a manhole or sewer cover after the melting process is executed.
Over 200 guns were recently sent to the Schnitzer Steel Plant. Boston Police officers watched over the destruction of the guns.

“It feels good knowing that the weapons destroyed here today won’t get a second chance to hurt or harm anybody else in the future,” one officer said.
