Photos: Parents, Kids, Staff Repaint Beethoven School Parking Lot

Beethoven School students now have maps, games, hopscotches and crosswalk designs, in their school's parking lot of recess and physical education classes.

This past Sunday morning the Beethoven School Parent Council repainted the pavement parking lot in front of the school after previous designs have faded away.

The parking lot designs are used as a play space for recess and physical education. Maps, games, hopscotches, and crosswalks were painted, said Kristina Martin, of the parent council.

"Numerous national studies on playground markings have shown that these markings increase children’s physical activity at recess. This increase in activity helps raise energy expenditure and aids in the effort to combat childhood obesity," wrote Martin. "In addition, playground markings help decrease playground confrontations, including bullying, and provide a format for children to learn to solve problems and resolve conflicts."
