Stone House Unveils New "You Are Loved" Mural (Stone House)

Stone House, which partners with adult and child survivors of domestic violence and related trauma, is unveiling a new mural designed to welcome all to their new space in Roxbury.

Alex Cook, a prolific and talented artist who has created over 200 murals in the US and abroad, created the multi-colored, impactful mural. Since 2014 Cook has worked with schools, prisons, worship centers, shelters, and other organizations as part of the YOU ARE LOVED mural project. The murals are commonly placed in gathering spaces to bring peace, joy, and love to a community. Cook set up a Go Fund Me page which received over $10,000 in donations to support the cost to create two murals in Boston. In addition to the mural in the community room at Stone House, the other is on Centre Street in Jamaica Plain. More of Cook’s work can be seen at www.stonebalancer.com

Stone House is in the process of opening a new building at the corner of Washington Street and Westminster in the heart of the Roxbury community. This new facility offers space to support many more domestic violence programs and support services, along with an early learning center for thirty-six children. The upper floor residences provide housing for domestic violence survivors.

“We are very grateful to Alex for choosing Stone House to display one of his incredible murals and hope that everyone who sees it feels, welcomed, accepted, and loved.” said Catherine Lawrie, Community Engagement Manager, Stone House. “We look forward to more people seeing it soon when we open our doors for support groups, which include programming related to domestic violence, parenting, financial empowerment, personal enrichment, and healthy living skills.”
