State Representative Ed Coppinger is recuperating after a kidney transplant performed on Thursday. Coppinger was diagnosed with a rare, hereditary kidney disease 15 years ago.
Both Representative Coppinger and his sister, Eileen, who donated her kidney, are in great health and request privacy during their recovery.

In March Coppinger was named Chairman of the House Committee on Redistricting to start the 2015 legislative cycle in the Massachusetts House of Representatives.

He passed legislation that increased benefits paid to families of first responders lost in the line of duty in 2014.
Coppinger lives in West Roxbury with wife Donna and four daughters, Maggie, Emma, Ava and Maeve.
