Your Guide: Memorial Bench Dedication Honoring Charlie Nichols Then Block Party

The memorial bench dedication will be held on Sat., Aug. 10 at noon followed by a block party on Pomfret Street.


One of West Roxbury's most beloved community members, Charlie Nichols, will have a memorial bench dedicated in his honor on Saturday, followed by a block party.

Charlie Nichols was the owner and operated the Pioneer Food Store on Weld Street in West Roxbury for 50 years. Charlie's Store at 604 Weld St., is named after Nichols, near the corner of Pomfret and Maple streets. That is will there event will be taking place at noon, and is open to all.

Many West Roxbury residents can talk about Nichols' being a wonderful neighbor to the community, and a beloved figure to many children who frequented his store delighting them with his penny candy.
