Closed Since April, Pediatric Dental Care of Wilmington Reopens Saturday

A water main burst destroying the inside of the children's dental office last spring. A grand reopening is planned for Saturday 1-4 p.m.

This weekend Pediatric Dental Care of Wilmington will be reopening for business after a a water main break left owner Dr. Marcy Gabrilowitz rebuilding from scratch the children’s dental office she just opened last year.

Last Spring, Gabrilowitz received a call from Wilmington Police telling her there was water pouring out the front door to her business. Turns out a water main burst in the ceiling of the building, damaged or destroyed everything she built to open her dental office back in 2014.

“Needless to say, six inches of water pouring across the ceiling and down the walls can do a lot of damage, especially with the electrical supply to some of our major equipment on the floor,” she says.

It took a lot of work to repair. Other tenants in the plaza also suffered damage, but unfortunately for Gabrilowitz, her business suffered the most with 75 percent of her dental office’s major equipment needing to be replaced. Additional repairs included replacing electrical in the floor, lights and wiring in the ceiling, replacing walls, replastering/repainting, as well as installing new floors, doors and cabinets.

During the months of rebuilding and waiting for new equipment orders to come in, Gabrilowitz was concerned most about her patients.

“My main concern during this time was that my patients would and could receive their care with me. Until insurance approved everything, we had to see our patients elsewhere which was not easy.”

Luckily she realized she could take her business on the road and also had the support of other dentists in town who helped by offering her space to see her patients during the transition.

“The morning after the flood I called almost every dental office in town and every single doctor said they could offer us their office space,” she says. “I was actually in tears that everyone in the community here was so receptive to helping me as a new colleague in town.”

“We would like to extend an enormous thank you to Dr. Greg Andre at Silver Lake Dental for allowing us to utilize his office the week of the water main break and to Dr. Rachel Perlitsh at Wilmington Orthodontics who shared her office with us for several months,” Gabrilowitz says. “We could not have done it without them and it just goes to show what type of community Wilmington is!”

On Saturday, Nov. 14, Pediatric Dental Care of Wilmington is officially reopening its doors.

To celebrate, they are hosting an open house. On hand will be balloon animals, face painting, raffles, giveaways and more. The open house will take place from 1-4 p.m.

Pediatric Dental Care of Wilmington is located at 213 Main St. in the Wilmington Crossing Plaza.
