Groundbreaking Ceremony Scheduled For New High School Project
State dignitaries will join residents and local officials at ceremony.

Question: When will the groundbreaking ceremony take place for the new high school?
Answer: After which saw the project pushed back a year, the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new Wilmington High School has been scheduled for Thursday, April 25, at noon.
The event will begin with a ceremony on the Town Common before attendees walk over to the site of the construction project on Church Street for the actual groundbreaking.

Members of the Wilmington Legislative delegation, along with representatives from the state's School Building Authority are expected to attend the event, along with local officials, members of the Wilmington education community and town residents.
School Committee Vice Chair Robert Hayes, who opted not to seek re-election, said the proudest moment of his tenure on the committee was chairing the Wilmington High School 4.0 Campaign Committee. The group's efforts to educate the public about the project contributed greatly to residents approving the $82 million high school in a ballot vote by a 3-1 margin.

"So many residents contributed to the success of the campaign. We had a core committee of 25 'movers and shakers' in town. Folks like Mike Newhouse, Judy O’Connell, Ginny Bonish, Manny Mulas, Jomarie O’Mahony, and I could go on and on," said Hayes. "Beyond that, we had a coordinated network of well over a hundred volunteers who did an outstanding job identifying and motivating supporters. I hope as many campaign volunteers and supporters as possible attend the ground breaking ceremony."
Actual work on the project began in February and the new high school is scheduled to be completed and opend in time for the start of the 2015-2016 school year.
