Have You Seen Buddy?

Wilmington dog missing nearly 10 months was spotted again in Wakefield on Thursday, giving his owners renewed hope.

Buddy, a Wilmington dog missing nearly 10 months, may have been spotted again in Wakefield Thursday, giving his owners renewed hope he will one day be back home as they continue to search for their beloved pet.

Buddy’s owner Deborah Edgerly said Buddy was spotted in Wakefield Thursday night around 7:30 p.m. Someone reported seeing a thin, dirty dog on Melvin Street. Melvin Street is near the other streets in Wakefield where Buddy has been most recently spotted including Franklin, Water, Albion and Nahant in July. Anyone who may see Buddy is asked to try and get a picture if you can and not which direction he may be headed and call 978-988-6306.

Buddy has been missing from the Richmond Road, Aldrich St. area in Wilmington since Oct. 14, 2014 and has been seen in many area towns. Please keep a lookout for him as his heartbroken family wants him home safe and sound.

If you’ve seen Buddy in the area, you are asked to call his owners immediately at 978-988-6306. Please do not call out for him or chase him.

Buddy is a 6-year-old Lab/Shepherd mix and weighed 75 pounds when he went missing. Buddy is friendly and outgoing and is wearing a collar and tags. Missing for several months he is now much thinner and very skittish. He has a very curly tail and purple markings on his tongue.

The owners of a dog missing since mid-October have received reports of several sightings of the missing pooch.

  • Buddy was spotted in several areas of Wakfield in July. On July 24, his owners got word of a strong Buddy sighting on Franklin Street. That same week Buddy may have been spotted on New Salem Street where Vernon Street meets. Previous sightings in Wakefield include near the laker area, Vernon, Water, Broadway, Albion and Mountain Streets.
  • On May 31, Buddy was possibly seen on Broadway in Stoneham heading in the direction of Wakefield. Missing Dogs Massachusetts say they received a report of seeing a “hungry, skittish dog” that matches Buddy’s description. At the time, Buddy had been missing nearly eight months.
  • In early April someone jogging at the Wakefield lake thought they saw a skinny Buddy a couple of times on the Main Street side of the lake in the midday hours.
  • Buddy’s owners also followed up on a sighting in Middleton on Peachy Street off River Street behind condominiums, in the beginning of April.
  • In mid March, there was a report he was seen in Lynnfield in the Chestnut Street area. In mid-January, there was a possible Buddy sighting on Forest Street at the North Reading/Middleton line near Harold Parker Forest. Buddy’s owners said at the time, the location makes sense following Buddy’s direction of travel so far.
  • On Jan. 7, Buddy was spotted at the Hood Elementary School in North Reading. In February he was spotted in the Grove Avenue area of Reading.
  • Prior to that when he first went missing he was seen in Tewksbury at Shawsheen and Ballard Streets, as well as in Wilmington at the North Intermediate School at the corner of Rte. 125 and Rte 62.
