MassDOT Encourages Safe, Smart Halloween Weekend Travel
Additionally, the MBTA Commuter Rail will provide increased train service to and from the annual celebration of Halloween in Salem.

MassDOT is encouraging drivers to travel safely over the Halloween weekend. With the combination of the holiday falling on a Saturday and Daylight Savings Time, MassDOT urges motorists to use extra caution on all roadways. Specifically on the state roadways where families may be crossing the street at night, MassDOT reminds drivers to follow the speed limit and stay mindful of crosswalks and intersections.
“MassDOT is asking drivers to use caution over the Halloween weekend while traveling throughout the state,” said MassDOT Highway Administrator Thomas J. Tinlin. “Saturday is Halloween, we want drivers to be on the lookout for ghosts and goblins, who will be trick or treating. This can be especially scary on our secondary roadways where these monsters may be crossing to fulfill their unholy quest for candy.”
When the construction season kicked off in May of this year MassDOT urged road users to “Expect the Unexpected” with the goal of increased awareness for safe behavior when approaching work zones. With the potential of more travelers on the road for Halloween night, MassDOT is emphasizing the need to be cautious at all times both in work zones and along all roadways.
