State Bill Would Rename Wilmington Bridge For Late Trooper Devlin

State Trooper Thomas Devlin died in September two years after he was hit by a car during a Billerica traffic stop.

WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington's state legislative delegation recently introduced a bill to rename a Wilmington bridge in honor of late state Trooper Thomas Devlin.

The bill, filed Jan. 26, would rename the Route 129 bridge at Interstate 92 in Wilmington in memory of the longtime Wilmington resident, as first reported by the Wilmington Apple.

Devlin died in September at the age of 58, two years after he was hit by a car during a traffic stop in Billerica. He left behind a wife and four children.

Wilmington's state Reps. Ken Gordon and Dave Robertson are the bill's original sponsors. State Sen. Bruce Tarr, who also represents Wilmington, is a co-sponsor, as is Tim Whelan of Brewster.

"He loved and respected the job, and the job loved and respected him," Col. Christopher Mason said in a statement after Devlin died. "Above all, he was utterly devoted to his family, and epitomized what it meant to be a loving husband and father. Trooper Devlin was known in the department for his hard work, his rock-solid character, and his commitment to being a reliable friend, co-worker and public servant — a trooper who could be counted on by his colleagues and the public."
