Surveys: 1/4th Of Parents Unsure About All Reopening Options

More than 5 percent of Wilmington families said their kids would not enroll or return to school in each possible scenario.

WILMINGTON, MA — Only two-thirds of parents are confident they would enroll or send their kids to school in each of three possible scenarios for fall reopening, according to survey results shared by Wilmington Public Schools.

If classes are fully in-person, 65.7 percent of parents would send their kids to school; 68.2 percent would in a hybrid model. But if classes were fully remote, 67.6 percent would keep their kids enrolled.

In each scenario, over 5 percent would not keep their kids in school; over 8 percent would not enroll in fully-remote classes.

The remaining quarter of parents are not sure what they would do.

Bus ridership would be even more in jeopardy: only 40.3 percent of parents would send their kids to school by bus, while 31.1 percent would not. Nine percent of parents said their kids walk, while the remainder are unsure.

If the district chose a hybrid model, alternating days is the slight favorite, preferred by 30.8 percent of parents, but alternating weeks and a "set schedule" also obtained substantial support.
