Target Makes Decision On Transgender Bathroom Usage in MA, Elsewhere
Target, the major department store retailer, has made a decision on transgender bathroom usage in Massachusetts and elsewhere.

Target announced this week that transgender customers are welcome to use the bathroom that matches their gender identity while shopping at its stores in Massachusetts and elsewhere.
"We welcome transgender team members and guests to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity," the company said in a statement.

The company said the policy applies to fitting rooms, too.
"Everyone deserves to feel like they belong," the statement continued. "And you’ll always be accepted, respected and welcomed at Target."

The decision comes as lawmakers in several states have offered proposals that would force individuals to use the bathroom that corresponds with the sex listed on their birth certificate.
The governor of North Carolina signed such a bill in late March, prompting a business backlash that led some, including Bruce Springsteen, to boycott the state.
In a statement, Target said "inclusivity is a core belief" at Target.
"We stand for equality and equity, and strive to make our guests and team members feel accepted, respected and welcomed in our stores and workplaces every day," according to the company.
The decision drew some flak, but also support, from some online commenters on Target's site.
"I love shopping at target but I won't be shopping there anymore," wrote a customer, Manda N Gilbert MedellinI.
"God bless Target! I approve of this and will show you with my dollars! This is FANTASTIC!!!," wrote another customer, Shelly Valladolid.
