Tree Lighting, Santa Claus Coming to Town and the Festival of Trees This Weekend
It's a holiday fun-packed weekend in Wilmington Saturday and Sunday. Here's what's on tap.
From the town’s annual tree lighting events, to Santa Claus driving through neighborhoods to greet good little girls and boys, to the annual Festival of Trees, there is certainly a lot of holiday cheer to go around this weekend in Wilmington.
Here’s a look at all that’s happening:
Santa Claus is Coming to Town Saturday Morning
Santa Claus is expected to make his appearance at the town’s annual tree lighting on Saturday night, but before that he’s going to be making a surprise trip around town and you could find him on your street!

Thanks to Wilmington’s Police and Fire Departments, Santa will be swinging into town early to help welcome in the holidays! He will be traveling all around town in a small parade of vehicles with Christmas music.
At 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5, listen for sirens and Christmas music as a parade of police cars and fire trucks take Santa Claus for a tour of Wilmington! Santa’s tour of the town will leave the Public Safety building at approximately 10 a.m.

Wilmington’s Annual Tree Lighting Saturday, 4 p.m.
Wilmington’s Annual Tree Lighting takes place this year on Saturday, Dec. 5 on the town common.
The event starts at 4 p.m. and it’s filled with fun for the entire family. Then at 6 p.m. Santa Claus arrives fire engine to light the common for the season and will be available for pictures in the Fourth of July Building.
WOW’s Festival of Trees is Saturday and Sunday
We’re One Wilmington’s 5th Annual Festival of Trees is this weekend!
Come join them on Saturday, Dec. 5 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Villanova Hall, 126 Middlesex Ave. in Wilmington.
This free, family-friendly event will feature a raffle of spectacular holiday trees, wreaths and baskets.
Ribbons will be awarded for donations in the following categories: Best Use of Theme, Best Mini/Tabletop Tree, Best Wreath, Most Creative/Unique Tree and Best in Show.
WOW will make monetary donations to the Wilmington non-profit of choice in the names of the donors of the winning trees.
The event has a full schedule of entertainment and vendors lined up, in addition to appearances from Mrs. Claus throughout the weekend.
Also new this year – a scavenger hunt for the kids! Each completed sheet will be entered into a raffle. Names will be drawn and prizes awarded throughout the weekend!
There also will be baked goods, popcorn and refreshments for sale.
Proceeds from this event will be used to purchase holiday gifts for local families in need and to help fund the WOW high school scholarship program.
