What Do You Think About School Nurses Carrying Narcan?

Wilmington schools to join more than 75 school districts across the state who have recently started carrying Narcan.

WILMINGTON, MA - At last week’s School Committee meeting, it was announced that Wilmington school nurses will soon be carrying Narcan, the medication that can reverse the effects of an overdose of heroin or some types of painkillers.

The announcement came in a presentation made to the School Committee by Wilmington School Nurse Leader Doreen Crowe, according to a report by Wilmington Apple.

In her presentation, Crowe cited the fact fatal overdoses have more than doubled over the past four years. Additionally, according to the report, she stated that nurses in more than 75 school districts across the state have recently started carrying Narcan.

Additionally she addressed questions and concerns and acknowledged the health crisis drug use is causing saying “Just like having epinephrine on hand, and AEDs in our schools, we hope we never have to use Narcan, but we’ll feel confident that we’ll have it available if we need it.”
