8-Year-Old Asks Santa for Donations to Help Those in Need

Kylie's Gift of Giving is raising money to help children at Boston Children's Hospital, as well as those who won't have any gifts this year.

A Wilmington 8-year-old is asking Santa not for presents or money for herself, but for $600 to help children at Boston Children’s Hospital, and so far she’s raised more than five times that through her one Christmas wish.

A GoFundMe page has been started to help Kylie Plowman raise money to “help the children there who are sick” or donate the money to “children who have no gifts this year at Christmas,” according to her mom Melissa’s post on the page.

Started just days ago on Dec. 1, more than $3,100 has already been raised to make Kylie’s Christmas wish come true.

It all started when Kylie wrote a note to her “Elf on the Shelf” asking him to tell Santa what she wants most this Christmas, Kylie’s mom Melissa Perron Plowman wrote on the GoFundMe page. A portion of that letter is pictured with this article above.

“It would mean so much to her, and to us if we could make her wish come true. This child is filled with love and generosity to give,” Kylie’s mom wrote. “We can think of no better lesson and no greater gift than the gift of giving to others who are in need- always, but particularly at this time of year.”

And so began Kylie’s Gift of Giving.

Donations are being collected through Dec. 10. Half the money raised will be given to the Wilmington Firefighters for its Toys for Wilmington Children Drive and the other half to Boston Children’s Hospital.

“We will hopefully be able to wrap a certificate and give it to Kylie Christmas morning so she can see how her generosity motivated us all to remember what matters most this season-the health, well-being, and joy of our children,” her mom says.
