Wilmington COVID: Positivity Rate Up To 9.64%

WILMINGTON, MA —The Town of Wilmington saw a few key coronavirus metrics head in the wrong direction when the Department of Public Health (DPH) released its latest data on Thursday.

According to the data, Wilmington administered 664 tests in the last two weeks, with 64 of them coming back positive. That is a positive rate of 9.64 percent, which is higher than the last time the statistics were released.

Wilmington is one of 217 Massachusetts cities and towns that saw their positivity rate increase. There were 96 cities and towns that saw their positivity rate decrease, and 23 had no change.

The statewide seven-day positive test rate increased from 7.87 percent last week to 8.17 percent Thursday, according to the DPH. For three straight weeks, the positivity rate has remained higher than it was when the original omicron subvariant began losing steam at the end of January.

Wilmington recorded 60 COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks, bringing its total to 5,809 cases during the pandemic. Wilmington's most recent average daily case rate was 18.4 per day, an increase over the previous week.

The state data showed that Wilmington was one of 150 cities and towns in Massachusetts in which the COVID-19 case rate increased. There were 152 communities with a decreasing COVID-19 case rate and 34 with no change.

In the state, the weekly average case count was 1,122.7 daily cases, down from 1,200.3 last week. At the early January peak of the omicron surge, the state reported more than 23,000 average daily cases.

As for statewide deaths, there were 6.7 deaths per day over the last week, up from 5.6 per day a week ago.

The DPH on Thursday also reported 10,250 new coronavirus cases in the last week, as well as 42 new deaths and 5,131 vaccine doses administered.

The latest state vaccine report showed the number of fully vaccinated residents rose to more than 5.42 million. Booster doses were given to about 3.15 million residents.
