Wilmington Honoring Veterans With Greenlight Campaign, Ceremony

The lights at the Town Common have been changed to green this month. The Town Common also is the site of a Nov. 11 Veterans Day ceremony.

WILMINGTON, MA — The Town of Wilmington will be honoring veterans in multiple ways this November.

During the entire month, the town is participating in the Greenlight a Vet campaign, and the lights at the Town Common have been changed to green.

"America's veterans are some of our nation's bravest, hardest-working men and women," the U.S. Army Reserve said in a statement about the campaign. "However, it is hard to show them the appreciation they deserve when, back home and out of uniform, they are more camouflaged than ever. Greenlight a Vet is a campaign to establish visible national support for our veterans by changing one light to green."

The Army Reserve statement continued: "Green is the color of hope, renewal and well-being. 'Greenlight' is also a term commonly used to activate forward movement. The simple action of changing one light to green is intended to spark a national conversation regarding the recognition of veterans, and 'greenlight' them forward as valued members of our communities."

On Veterans Day, Nov. 11, the Wilmington Department of Veterans Services will be hosting the Town of Wilmington Veterans Day Ceremonies. Organizers said the event will be a chance to remember and honor all past and present veterans.
