Wilmington PD Hosting Coffee With A Cop For Seniors On Wednesday

WILMINGTON, MA —The Wilmington Police Department is inviting local seniors to its Coffee with a Cop event, where attendees can have a cuppa —and a snack —and some good conversation with members of the department.

The event takes place at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Buzzell Senior Center, located at 15 School St. Five or six officers are expected to attend.

"The idea is for seniors to come down, have a cup of coffee and have an opportunity to meet some of their local police officers," Deputy Chief Brian Pupa, of the WPD, told Patch. "The department has changed over the years, personnel retire and younger officers come on. It's a chance to become familiar with the WPD. We'll be able to meet with (seniors) and hear some of their concerns and ideas. We'll help if there is anything we can assist them with or if we can find them an answer."

Pupa said the department previously has hosted similar events for residents at various businesses around town.

The department, Pupa said, will supply the free coffee and bakery items, which he said are paid for through a Cummings Foundation Grant.
