Wilmington Police Warn Residents About 'Sextortion' Scams

A new breed of scam includes photos of the target's house that aims to make the threats "more frightening and convincing," police said.

WILMINGTON, MA — Police are warning residents about scams that include a picture of the target's house.

Wilmington police posted the following on Facebook:

Community Alert: WPD would like residents to be aware of recent and ongoing scams and targeting by illegitimate entities. A scammer having a picture of your house is part of a sextortion email scam that aims to make threats more frightening and convincing. The scammers may use images of your home from online mapping services like Google Maps.
