Wilmington Positive Test Rate Falls Nearly 2 Percentage Points

The town reported a 6.2 percent positive test rate over the last two weeks, still above the high-risk threshold.

WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington reported another dramatic drop in positive test rate in the latest Massachusetts Department of Health city and town coronavirus report Thursday.

The town's positive test rate over the last two weeks fell to 6.2 percent, down from 8.1 percent last week, according to the state report. The town's two-week positive rate was 11 percent as of Jan. 7.

The town remains classified as high risk for the virus.

Dozens of cities and towns were removed from the high-risk category Thursday, amid a multi-week decline in coronavirus rates across the state.

The seven-day average positive test rate for the state fell to 4.44 percent, down a percentage point over the last week. Statewide case counts, hospitalizations and deaths also all fell over the last week, although all measures remained far above the lows over the summer.

Wilmington had 171 cases over the last two weeks, or 49.9 average daily cases per 100,000 residents, versus 264 cases in last week's report.

According to the latest state report, 1,688 residents have tested positive for the virus.
