Wilmington Police said power was restored after a transformer issue caused widespread power outages Monday night in Wilmington and Reading.

Power initially went out around 5:15 p.m. and most residents had their power restored within an hour to an hour and a half of the initial outage.

Reading Municipal Light Department identified the issue as of 5:37 p.m. and was working to restore power, Wilmington Police said.

Many residents quickly found their power to be restored, only to have it go out again a few minutes later before it was fully restored about 6:30 p.m.

A new outage was reported in the Lowell Street area of Wilmington just after 7:30 p.m. but was quickly restored.

The Reading Police Department asked residents to not call in to report their power out.

“We do not know how long it will take them to make the necessary repairs,” Reading police said at the time. “They are working as quickly as they can.”
