Wilmington Selectmen Make Jan. 3 "Sean Collier Day"
The MIT police officer and Wilmington native was killed by the Tsarnaev brothers days after the Boston Marathon bombing.
WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington's Board of Selectmen voted Monday to make Jan. 3 "Sean Collier Day" in honor of the Wilmington native and MIT police officer who was killed by the Tsarnaev brothers days after the Boston Marathon bombing.
Collier's shooting on Apr. 18, 2013 set off the manhunt that led to the brothers' capture the next day.
The board voted unanimously to commemorate Collier on Jan. 3 each year — his birthday.

The town's police department lined up in the Town Hall auditorium for the vote Monday.
"We are proud to serve in a community that honors its heroes," the Wilmington Police Department said on Facebook.
