Wilmington Town Museum Celebrating 50 Years Since Tavern Acquisition
Housed in the historic 18th-century Harnden Tavern, the museum will host an anniversary event featuring speakers, singers, food and tours.

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Town Museum has announced plans for a celebration of the 50th anniversary of its acquisition of the Col. Joshua Harnden Tavern and the establishment of the town's Historical Commission.
The anniversary event is scheduled for 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 11 on the grounds of the museum, located at 430 Salem St. The family-friendly event is free and will feature guest speakers, entertainment, food, games and tours.
"We are thrilled to mark this important milestone in the history of the Wilmington Town Museum," said Bonny Smith, chair of the Historical Commission. "We invite everyone to come and join us for an afternoon of celebration and fun, as we reflect on the past and look forward to the future."

According to organizers, guest speakers at the anniversary event will include local historians and community leaders, who will share their thoughts on the museum, the town's history and the importance of preserving local heritage.
Colonial singers will provide live entertainment at the event, and there will be games and activities designed to teach children about Wilmington's history. Free hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks and desserts will be served.

Visitors also will be able to tour the museum and carriage house, both of which showcase artifacts and exhibits that chronicle the town's past.
Additionally, the museum will dedicate a plaque to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Harnden Tavern acquisition.
According to the Town of Wilmington, the tavern is a historic 18th-century tavern and an excellent example of construction practices of the late 1700s. The carriage house, meanwhile, was built in the 1800s.
