10 Most Dangerous Intersections In Worcester: Study

Guess what? Kelley Square didn't make the list.

WORCESTER, MA—Roughly 2.35 million Americans are hurt or disabled in road accidents, according to statistics, and road crashes cost the country $230.6 billion per year.

And Worcester's got its fair share of "crash sites."

The research group Get on Board with Safety Team recently released its findings from a dangerous intersection study of the city, reporting that in 2015, Worcester saw a total of 5,380 accidents resulting in 10,359 damaged vehicles, 1,693 injuries and seven deaths.

The most dangerous intersections are marked on the map in red.

The Mill Street, Cambridge Street, Highland Street, Belmont Street and Plantation Street all hold spots at the very top of the list.

The Top 10:

  1. 640 Cambridge Street
  2. Belmont Street & Plantation Street
  3. Highland Street & Harvard Street
  4. Main Street & Mill Street
  5. Park Avenue & Highland Street
  6. Chandler Street & Mill Street
  7. 630 Plantation Street
  8. Cambridge Street & Southbridge Street
  9. Park Avenue & May Street
  10. 68 Stafford Street

According to the Get On Board with Safety team, the intersections with the largest number of accidents did not directly translate to the largest number of injuries. A majority of accidents resulting in injuries came from Route 290 East and West. Route 290 East saw a total of 57 injuries while 290 West saw 40, the group reported. The intersection of Chandler & Piedmont Street ranked third with nine injuries followed by Highland and Harvard Street with eight.
