Worcester-based Medical Insurer Set To Be Acquired By Mass General Brigham

The company said there will be no immediate changes for members.

WORCESTER, MA — A potential acquisition is in the works for two health insurance companies in Massachusetts.

Worcester-based nonprofit health insurer Fallon Health is set to be acquired by Mass General Brigham, the two companies announced Thursday. The two are working together to join Fallon Health in the Mass General Brigham Health Plan.

The move comes after Fallon Health said it conducted a "thoughtful and intentional process to identify a long-term partner aligned with its mission and strategic vision—one that ensures members continue to receive the care and support they need now and in the years ahead," in a joint statement from the companies.

Fallon Health has more than 1,000 employees and about 200,000 members across Massachusetts, according to its website.

There would be no immediate change for members, according to Fallon Health.
