Worcester State University Gets $1.6M To Help Students Complete Degrees

WSU was among 9 public schools in the state to receive funding.

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester State University was among 9 public schools in Massachusetts for degree completion services.

The Healey-Driscoll Administration awarded $13 million to support supplemental tutoring for students at risk of not completing their degrees and to pay case workers to connect high-need students with social service providers and programs. WSU was awarded $1,620,191 of those funds.

Other public institutions that received funding were Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, and Westfield State University.

The funding will also be used to help individuals and families with college-going costs beyond tuition and fees, including transportation, child care and food necessities.

The initiative is part of a State University SUCCESS program that supports areas of need identified by colleges.

“We’re proud to have doubled state financial aid in Massachusetts to make it more affordable for students to attend college, and we’re also investing in the supports that students need to succeed in school and finish their degrees,” said Gov. Maura Healey.
