2 Worcester Schools Get An 'F' For Free Speech: See The New Ranking

A total of 257 schools were surveyed across the nation.

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Clark University recieved an 'F' for free speech, according to the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression ranking of free speech at campuses in the U.S.

A total of 257 schools were surveyed nationwide. Sixteen Massachusetts schools are ranked in the free speech ranking, and the state's average speech climate grade is an 'F.'

Amherst College ranks No. 70 overall and is the top-ranked school in the state, while Harvard University, Boston College and Northeastern University are among the lowest-ranked schools in the U.S.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute was ranked No. 121 nationally, with an overall score of 58. The ranking dropped 75 places from last year.

According to the ranking, at WPI, "28% of students say they have self-censored on campus at least once or twice a month."

Clark University was ranked No. 191 nationally, with an overall score of 54.6. That score is up 1.2 from last year.

According to the ranking, at Clark, "55% of students say they have self-censored on campus at least once or twice a month."
