Lakeside Apartments Demolition Underway In Worcester
The apartments in Worcester's Columbus Park neighborhood were originally built in 1949.

WORCESTER, MA — Demolition of the decades-old Lakeside Apartments in Worcester officially began on Monday.
Phase one demolition of the apartments at 46 Lakeside Ave. in Worcester's Columbus Park neighborhood kicked off at 8 a.m. The four-phase plan will replace the buildings, originally built in 1949, with modern, energy-efficient homes, the Worcester Housing Authority said.

The first two phases of the project officially began in October. Phases one and two will replace 61 units with 116 new apartments and create 10 new homeownership opportunities, among other things.

Overall, apartments will undergo reconstruction to add 350 new modern apartments, replacing the existing 202 units. There will be a range of affordability options within the apartments, according to WHA.

Demolition will continue for the next few weeks, and construction will begin shortly after, WHA said.
