400 Lb Black Bear On The Loose In Central MA Neighborhood

Police are urging residents to take precautions this week.

TOWNSEND, MA — Police in a central Massachusetts town are alerting residents to a massive bear roaming the neighborhood.

An approximately four-hundred-pound black bear was spotted multiple times in the area of Mason and Greenville Roads in Townsend. The most recent sighting was at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, according to police.

The Townsend Police Department is urging residents to take precautions for the next week, including removing all bird feeders, securing and storing trash and closing all doors.

Police said that if the bear cannot find food this week, it will most likely move to another area.
