87-Unit Building Planned For Worcester Shrewsbury Street Lot

An Auburn developer behind a 218-unit Shrewsbury Street building wants to build a second on in an empty lot across the street.

WORCESTER, MA — An Auburn-based developer that's planning a 218-unit residential building along Shrewsbury Street is planning a second apartment directly across the road, according to plans submitted to the Worcester Planning Board recently.

Lundgren Equity Partners LLC wants to turn the parking lot at 224 Shrewsbury St. into an 87-unit residential building, according to the plans.

Lundgren in October received approval from the Zoning Board of Appeals to build a 7-story residential building at 225 Shrewsbury St. The building would sit at the rear of a shopping plaza along Albany Street.

According to the Worcester County Registry of Deeds, a company called 224 Shrewsbury Street Realty Trust bought the parking lot in late 2022 for $1.6 million. Lundgren Equity Partners LLC is the main trustee of 224 Shrewsbury Street Realty Trust.

Plans for the 224 Shrewsbury St. building say it will stand six stories and take up about 90,000 square-feet. There would 54 parking spots on the site, a reduction of about 13 spaces from the present use.

The new proposal follows the planning board approval of a 24-unit residential building at 393-397 Shrewsbury St. The building would take the spot of an empty lot and a triple-decker near Granby Road.
